6 short promotional films for a national vote on ITV
‘The People’s Millions’ was a television and internet event devised by the Big Lottery Fund and ITV culminating in a public vote in late December 2007. The project was conceived to inspire the British public to take part in the decision on how to allocate over £50 million to a major UK re-generation project. 422 won a public tender for the commission to produce 6 short promotional films - each championing one of six competing projects – to be aired late 2007 on ITV after the late evening news slot. The projects included ‘Connect 2’ (the winning project) promoting the linking and extending of the UK cycle network, ‘Sherwood’ to make the famous forest an accessible visitor resource, ‘Waterlinks’ proposing Somerset as a Europe’s number one green tourist destination, ‘Inspired’ making accessible a large hidden collection of the Science Museum, ‘The Edge’ - an additional desert-based environment to extend Cornwall’s successful Eden Project, and ‘The Black Country’, a series of projects focusing on Midlands industrial heritage.
422 were commissioned to write, direct and produce the films, which though largely comprising special live-action shooting, also included a number of digital effects shots to help visualise the various proposals.
