New Olbas Weather Idents

Client: Bray Leino

422 creates new weather sponsorship idents for GMTV

422 South was recently commissioned by agency Bray Leino, to produce x 4 new 10” sponsorship idents for the Olbas range – to run on GMTV until the end of February 2009.

The idents feature the Olbas “Nose” family members that have appeared in previous TV commercials and also last year’s GMTV “Pick Of The Day” idents. They promote several products in the Olbas range including the oils, the inhaler, the vaporiser and a new range of menthol lozenges.

Since Olbas are sponsoring the regional weather forecasts on GMTV, the central theme of the idents is very seasonal and features a number of different weather conditions including wind, rain, frost and snow. Creatively, 422 South was briefed to light the animation in a different way to previous spots to help give the scenes a brighter and generally more up to date look and feel.

Previously the nose models had been created in Softimage XSI. Animation Director Rogerio Alves took the decision to import them into Maya and re-rig the models since Maya now has far wider ranging capabilities to give more flexibility. The noses were then animated, textured and lit with the intention of creating a warm, friendly and cosy feel for the nose characters themselves and also their internal environments, even though the outside environments were created to reflect the chilly weather conditions of winter by contrast.

Debbie Taylor and Alex Briggs produced the idents for 422, with Elli Hutton producing for Bray Leino. Creative directors at Bray Leino were Fiona Brown and Ruth Perrin.

The idents first aired on GMTV in the 6.40 am slot on Monday 6th October and are shown at various times within the main programme.
