422 produce 512 visual effects shots for a major 3 hour drama documentary series on how the world will look in 50 years time.

422 were commisisoned by Gruppe 5 Film Productions to design and produce 512 complex digital effects shots for this major new drama documentary series. The series examines the scientific and technological developments that will transform our lives over the next 50 years, illustrating their impact through fictional stories of ordinary, and not so ordinary people.

Themes include future sugery using holographic techniqes, flying cars, future cities, space elevators and the impact of energy shortages on international affairs.

422's team comprised CGI artists using Maya, compositors using Shake, and digital matte painters. The most complex scenes involved prolongued hand held shots with multi-layered tracking and greenscreen matting.

Many shots involved blends of shot elements, CGI elements, and painted effects.

The series will be shown in Europe by ZDF of Germany, and in the US and worldwide by Discovery Channel.
