422 creates visual effects to enhance this 2 hour epic documentary with dramatic reenactments of the construction and history and of the iconic Wall

422's Dave Corfield joined the film crew on location in China to supervise the shooting of backplates for approximately 20 visual effects shots. These called for the creation of vast armies of thousands of Chinese and Mongol warriors - when the true numbers of actors/extras available to be filmed was rather more limited ! Dave then returned to 422 to lead the production of composite effects shots, which included digital matte painted elements showing the wall itself as it looked when newly-built, and in varying stages of construction. 422 designer Charles Golding produced stylish maps in traditional Chinese style, and Karen Kelly assisted with compositing and digital matte work.
