422 South Creates 3D Nose Family for Olbas
422 South has recently completed animation for the new 30” and 10” Olbas TV commercials.
The campaign, due to start it’s run this November, features a 3D family of character noses – mother, father, teenage son and baby, who are all suffering from the symptoms of winter colds. The Olbas range of products (pastilles, inhaler and oil) helps them to go about their daily lives as they would normally, with these symptoms being relieved through the natural ingredients of Olbas.
Agency Bray Leino devised the creative concept behind the campaign. Creative Director Gary Jarvis briefed 422 South to come up with a 3D style of animation which would suit the nature of the Olbas product making use of the corporate oranges and greens which feature elsewhere in the branding, for example in the product packaging and in supporting print material.
Animators Morgan Powell, Neil Kidney and John Hedley worked up a design where the flesh tones of the 3D noses would look as natural as possible. The backgrounds however have more of a “2D in 3D” look, being made up of tonal colour combinations from the Olbas corporate colours. The combination of these two looks gives the animation a unique look and style, and yet at the same time it concentrates the viewer’s attention on the actions of the nose family. The models were built, animated and rendered in SoftImage XSI.
TV presenter Davina MaCall provides the voice-over for both commercials.
422 producer for the animation is Debbie Taylor.
First transmission for the 30” commercial is Monday 7th November on GMTV.
